Kunzig
Shamar Rimpoche, the 14th holder of the name, spent an exceptional
three days at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling on August 27-29, 2004. In the
presence of Jigmé Rinpoche, the lamas of Kundreul Ling
and Dhagpo, teachings and an empowerment were given here at the
Gyalwa Karmapa’s European seat. Approximately 500 people
were present to receive the current holder of the Karma Kagyu
lineage.
After having been welcomed
by the center’s director and ritual
offerings, Kunzing Shamar Rimpoche gave a teaching about the meaning
of meditation. Based on a text by Vimalamitra belonging to the Tengyur
collection, “Progressive integration of the meaning of meditation”,
he transmitted instructions that give an introduction to the practices
of Shiné (Shamatha) and Lhaktong (Vipassana).
At
Shamarpa’s request, meditation sessions were organized
and overseen by the Dhagpo lamas, allowing participants to receive
precise
instructions on the appropriate posture and state of mind conducive
to meditation; different meditation methods were also taught. Friday
evening an abundant offering ritual to Amithaba brought together
lamas, druplas and practitioners.
Saturday,
August 28, after giving refuge to twenty people, Kunzig Shamar Rimpoche bestowed the empowerment of the peaceful aspect
of Manjushri to over seven hundred practitioners from several
different European countries (Germany, Austria, Spain, England...).
Afterwards,
he met with representatives from the different French and European
KTTs, the regional and urban satellite centers connected
with Dhagpo Kagyu Ling’s activity. Shamar Rimpoche reminded
all present of the importance of these centers where teachings can
be received and personal practice enhanced, stressing the fact that
they are the concrete expression of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa’s
wishes.
Sunday,
at the end of his teaching, Shamar Rimpoche said that he would
return to Dhagpo in the near future in order to finish
giving
the transmission he had begun. After the closing speeches
and ritual offerings, he consecrated the foundations of the Institute,
enquiring
about the project and its development.
On
September 1, Kunzig Shamar Rimpoche left Dordogne in order to
continue his activity
elsewhere.
